New Tesco Store in Eden Shopping Centre, High Wycombe

Retail Case Study

Project Overview.

INTOHEAT were appointed to complete the M&E design and installation for a new Tesco store at the Eden Shopping Centre, High Wycombe. INTOHEAT collaborated with the client and project teams throughout the design and construction phases to ensure the tight delivery programme could be achieved in the bustling shopping area of the Eden Centre.

Project Testimony.

“This was my first job working with the INTOHEAT team, and they have been nothing short of brilliant. The coordination of the various schemes ran like clockwork, and nothing was out of step or missed on a project of this magnitude.

What stood out even more was the good-natured and cooperative approach of the respective teams. It is a rarity for all these trades to leave a good impression on Site Management, but INTOHEAT’s team has, without a doubt.

Alan has been brilliant throughout in coordinating and getting things ready where needed in time, especially considering this was his first new store. An amazing feat.

Similarly, to the Mechanical team – all absolutely great people to work with and good at their respective works.

I think this has been splendidly coordinated throughout. I look forward to working with you guys again.”

We’re incredibly proud of our electrical and mechanical teams for consistently delivering not just technical excellence, but professionalism and collaboration on every project.

Project Description.

The project included the full refurbishment of the store with new M&E services throughout, following the strip out of all existing systems. The installation team faced numerous challenges with the tight project programme, equipment lead times and the existing ACM soffit, requiring effective collaboration and coordination with the main contractor, refrigeration specialist and supply chain to deliver the project successfully.

The store is now fully decarbonised with heating being provided by the CO2 Refrigeration ‘BIS Pack’ System, utilising waste heat energy and sustainable natural refrigerant. The energy is retained via thermal stores to further maximise waste heat recovery and is pumped to the main AHU to provide heating and ventilation to the store. Sustainable fabric ducting has been utilised on the sales floor to provide even air distribution and improved occupancy comfort by minimising draughts and noise. Additional mechanical services included VRV air conditioning systems, mechanical ventilation heat recovery, bakery extract ventilation and hot and cold-water services.

The installation of smart DALI dimmable LED lighting provides optimised lighting levels throughout the store during daylight conditions, further reducing energy consumption and improving occupancy comfort by reducing excess lighting levels. With the addition of the smart emergency testing system, emergency light fittings will automatically be self-tested and monitored, minimising in-person testing and ensuring enhanced safety compliance. The electrical services are served via a new main LV switchboard, which serves client, mechanical and refrigeration equipment in addition to the general small power services throughout the store.
