The Grafton Centre, Cambridge

Retail Case Study

The Grafton centre is an enclosed shopping centre in the heart of Cambridge and since its inception in the 1980’s had undergone various refurbishments and upgrades to enhance the retail offer and mix over the years.

This refurbishment comprised the replacement and upgrade of the landlord area lighting in the mall and atrium areas. The project has enhanced the visual draw to the centre for customers and helped with way finding to the various outlets from the anchors to the independents within the centre.

A new glazed entrance has been presented with a contemporary lighting scheme using Ridi luminaires and Helvar control system to provide theming and dimming options. With a mixture of daylighting and artificial lighting using a combination of strategically located pendants, lighting boxes along with circular and raft luminaire this retail destination has been significantly enhanced.

Working in a live shopping centre presented its usual complications of segregation of the works from the public and working at high level. We completed the installation with modifications to the distribution boards and providing control via a PC in the management suite.
