INTOHEAT’s Recognition for Reporting

At INTOHEAT, the safety of our teams and those around us is top priority. That’s why in April 2025, we introduced our QR Code Reporting Incentive Scheme – a new initiative designed to encourage and reward proactive safety reporting across our projects. The scheme enables operatives to easily report near misses, hazards, or potential safety issues by scanning a QR code on site, ensuring that vital information is passed on quickly and effectively.

April Winner: Alan Hooley – Retail Department

The very first recipient of our QR Code Reporting Incentive Scheme award was Alan Hooley, a valued contractor working within our Retail department. On 13th April 2025, while carrying out electrical work in a ceiling void above a store aisle, Alan discovered three unterminated cables, which were presumed live.

Alan followed all the correct procedures in reporting the near miss via the QR code, informing the store manager and his line manager. Although the cables were contained within a ceiling void and did not pose an immediate risk to the public, Alan’s actions prevented a potentially serious incident for any future contractors working in that area.

Alan was presented with his Amazon voucher by Jade Phillips, Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) adviser for INTOHEAT, as he began another shift for us at a store in Wiltshire. Alan commented that it was ‘lovely to be recognised for doing my job like this’ and thanked INTOHEAT for the reward.

May Winners: Simon Phippen and Danny Riddick – Bristol Projects Department

Following an impressive month of QR code safety reports in May, the INTOHEAT panel selected two winners for their exceptional diligence and quick thinking: Simon Phippen and Danny Riddick, both from our Bristol Projects department.

Danny Riddick – Mechanical Supervisor

On 14th May 2025, while working at Bristol Dental Hospital, Danny spotted suspected asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) on outdated fire prevention components. Danny immediately stopped all work, segregated the area to prevent access and informed his line manager, who contacted a licensed asbestos company to attend the site.

Thankfully, testing confirmed that the materials were not asbestos, allowing work to safely resume. Nonetheless, Danny’s adherence to procedure protected the team from a potentially dangerous exposure.

Danny was presented with his Amazon voucher by Steve Cartledge, Projects Director for INTOHEAT. Danny commented: “Thank you very much. It’s great to have feedback for reporting, let alone receiving a reward for it”

This case highlights the vital importance of asbestos awareness and demonstrates textbook execution of the proper response when encountering a suspected ACM.

Simon Phippen – Electrical Supervisor

On 21st May 2025, Simon was leading a team at Southmead Hospital’s ground floor pharmacy. As part of his safety checks, Simon requested a pre-use inspection of a Pecolift being used to access ceiling voids.

The inspection identified that the lift had a faulty locking mechanism when being raised, which had the potential to cause either injury to the operator or damage to the surrounding environment. The operator immediately informed Simon, who then quarantined the equipment and informed the hire company of the fault.

This swift and responsible action prevented a potentially serious incident and reinforced the necessity of pre-use inspections for all equipment.

Simon was presented with his Amazon voucher by Craig Timbrell, Managing Director of INTOHEAT. Simon commented: “Thanks so much. We have a great team here at Southmead who are committed to safe working practices”

Looking Forward

These three individuals exemplify the type of safety culture we’re proud to foster at INTOHEAT. Their actions not only averted risks but also set a standard for proactive and responsible behaviour across all our sites.

We’re proud to recognise and reward these efforts and look forward to seeing more of our team members engage with the QR Code Reporting Scheme as it continues to grow.

Well done to Alan, Danny, and Simon, and thank you for helping make INTOHEAT a safer place to work.
